Cosmic Rayn

Seeing the Unseen

Every second, particles from distant galaxy storms pass through your body. You’ve never seen one… until today.

Cosmic rays begin in powerful energetic events like exploding stars called supernovas. These cosmic ‘raindrops’ are launched across the galaxy, traveling at almost the speed of light. Some wander for millions of years and few fly towards Earth. Cosmic rays arrive randomly and spontaneously, like a scattered drizzle of tiny drops everywhere, all the time.

We cannot see cosmic rays themselves as they’re too small and too fast. But just like breath becomes visible on a cold morning, the vapor in this chamber reveals the invisible. As a charged particle passes through the mist, it leaves behind a tiny trail. Those coming from the sky are a momentary footprint of something falling from space.

Cosmic Rayn is an immersive science exhibit that lets you experience the universe's messengers pass through you in real time. This project turns invisible cosmic rays—high-energy particles born in supernovas, black holes, and distant galaxies—into vivid flashes, sounds, and motion to draw you in as they pass right through your body. Blending cutting-edge detectors, contemporary design, and hands-on physics, we transform everyday phenomena into a personal encounter with the high-energy cosmos. Step inside and meet the particles that have been visiting you your entire life.
